For 5 months, I conducted anthropological research on the processes of cultural digitalization, using digital anthropology techniques to study online communities, video games like Fortnite, and digital exhibitions. The findings were published in the journal of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
During this work, I utilized various ethnographic tools to familiarize myself with the field of study. I gathered data and information from platforms such as YouTube, Discord, and Twitch. In this way, I was able to understand how the digitization processes were carried out during the pandemic in the cultural industries.
This work has allowed us to approach the processes of cultural digitization, generating a basic taxonomy, and analyzing the discourses, meanings, and worldviews that are present in cultural proposals in digital environments such as the Mondrian case or the Travis Scott concert in a video game.
I consider that i have produced an interesting foundation for future research that is framed within the line of digital cultural studies. Understanding digital environments not as a substitute for the material, but as a new field of experimentation for cultural management and social sciences. This work also has the intention of raising awareness and denying that the processes of digitization are simply technical, but that they intervene in a frontal manner in the sociocultural devices of contemporary societies.
